Country Music Holiday Song Notes: There used to be this gathering down in the city here in Chicago called Country Music Holiday. It was this monthly get together of the hardcore country music artists in Chicago. Ken Mottet from Big C and the Gin Palace Jesters hosted it. Our bass player, Buddy, was a regular there, and our drummer, Theresa, played in the house band. I only made it down there once because I usually ended up working weekends, but... it was a BLAST! The night I was there (at the California Clipper) the owner ordered out for pizza for everyone and we ate and drank and played and listened to country music. A few years later when I was working on this song, I borrowed the title for the chorus and it fit nicely. I wrote it at a time when I was working as the "unskilled labor" on a construction crew for my father in law. The song was really about being burnt and down and out and not really having any options. Something that country has always been about Lyrics: Country Music Holiday If I were a movie star I'd tip the kid a Benjamin Yeah, but I'm sitting here in Tuscaloosa What in the world do they want me to do, Chorus: I'll take the long way home in my old car, You don't need much time or money, Verse 2: I need to hear me some Willie Nelson Steve Earle's there to free my spirit, Repeat Chorus Twice Tag: You don't need much time or money,
